East Flatbush is The West Indies

Church Ave and Utica AveChurch Avenue and Utica Avenue is like the center of the Afro-Caribbean community in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. Believe it or not, 129, 256 is the population of the community, 51% of that population is foreign-born and most of the population is of Afro-Caribbean descent. Interestingly, East Flatbush has the highest concentration of West Indians in New York City and in the entire America. So the next time, you are passing Church Avenue and Utica Avenue be aware that this neighborhood is like the West Indies in America. It is made evident if you listen to the various West Indian dialects being heard from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Guyana, Grenada, St. Vincent and Grenadines and others. Also, the constant loud playing of West Indian musical genres such as reggae, dancehall, soca, and calypso solidifies West Indians stronghold on the East Flatbush neighborhood.
