Open Mic in Queens?

After twenty minutes of roaming around, lost on Ditmars Blvd. in Queens, I finally came to my destination called Waltz Astoria, a small cafe which comfortably sits about twenty people. It was Wednesday night which meant about thirteen of the twenty people seated in the cafe happen to be musicians, three people were comedians and the rest of the remaining four people were not willing to show any of their artsy talents…if they had any, because it was Open Mic night for Waltz Astoria.

I have been to open mics before, but it has either been in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Every Tuesday and Wednesday nights are open mic nights at Waltz Astoria. There is a ten dollar minimum, which is not much once you see all of the delicious items on their menu. From their drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, an eclectic variety of sandwiches like their cucumber, avocado and cheddar sandwich (which is as interesting as it sounds)  as well as their mouth watering deserts such as their red velvet cake.  The ambiance, food and most of all the talent makes the Waltz Astoria cafe the place to be…on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at least.   As a Queens resident taking it was my first time venturing out to Astoria, and it definitely will not be my last.

  1. It sounds fun. How was the show?

  2. It was a great show, a lot of talented musicians and funny comedians…some not so funny, but it was definitely worth my ten bucks 🙂
