John Liu Makes History, Becomes NY’s First Asian-American Comptroller

New York City saw the first Asian-American to be elected to city-wide office this past Tuesday night. John Liu,  former Queens councilman representing Flushing, will now become the next city comptroller, a feat that many are considering a milestone for the Asian-American community here in NYC.

Liu trounced his republican opponent, investment broker Joseph Mendola, by 76% to 19%, and by a margin of nearly 500,000 votes, according to the NYdailynews. Liu was highly favored to win.

Liu will be working alongside mayoral re-elect, Michael Bloomberg, who will continue into his third term,  as well as with democrat, Bill de Blasio, who was elected to the position of Public Advocate.
